Activities and Sports

Why do activities and sports for kids cost so much? And why is there so much pressure on kids to start a sport at a young age if they want to participate in that sport in High School?

Dom's baseball (T-ball) cost $90 and I know we'll be forking out more money for things like sweatshirts, coach's gift, party and trophy. Crazy.

The swim lessons cost us $90. I put it off until now because of the cost but they need to learn because we will spend this summer in the Crooked River Ranch pool.

Brianna did one session of ballet a couple years ago for only $35. We didn't go back because she didn't like the studio or the instructor (it's what you get for that price) and I haven't found a better yet affordable place for her to go.

Dom has done 3 seasons of soccer and Brianna will start next fall. Gladstone soccer association is awesome-only $40! I LOVE soccer! But because the kids have been around soccer their whole lives they say they don't like it - yet.

I would love for Dom & Bri to be in gymnastics but it would cost $80/month for them. So we go to Sunburst's open gyms every-other Saturday for just $5. Sunburst is where I began my gymnastics 25 years ago.

I also want the kids to have piano lessons and voice lessons but I may have to teach them myself. The problem with this, and same goes for gymnastics, my kids don't want to learn from me. I spent 2 years trying to teach Dom to read and write the ABC's with no success. He went to Kindergarten and learned them in one month.

And I thought diapers and baby food cost a lot.

SWIM LESSONS

I was so excited when we got to swim lessons on Wednesday and saw Aaron and Anna, Emilie, Eli & Grace! Emilie is in Dom's swim class!!! Eli and Grace have done it before but are taking a break this session and Eli has to leave early with his coach daddy to go to Gladstone spring soccer practice. Dom would've done spring soccer again but that might have been just a little too much for all of us.

Brianna's class is on the left, Dom's class is on the right.

Trista is a swim instructor at the aquatic park. What you all should do is have her teach a private Lewis only class!

I love the swim photos and I love that this new generation of Lewis cousins get to do some of the same things that I did with my cousins growing up!! I LOVE MY COUSINS and I know these kids do too :) Such a blessed family we have. ...R...

Hummmm. I like Ashley's idea!
I too get frustrated with all the extra activites and the cost that accompanies. Ben and I had a dissagreement about this very thing just the other day. There is just not enough time.
Loved the great picts! Miss you all. Love.

It's insane how much sports cost. Sydney is in ballet, which I normally wouldn't have signed her up for, except that Jason's parents paid for the first session. I wasn't quite paying attention to all the other fees that were going to be coming up, and hello! THREE HUNDRED dollars later...Ah well, she loves it, and it was definitely something I always wish I could have done as a kid.

If only I could find a more affordable studio!
