After 12 years of full-time and part-time service, I no longer work for Fidelity Title!
Thursday, July 17th, I was driving to work, listening to a new Avalon CD. The song, God is in Control caught my attention. As I sang along, I sent Tyler a simple text: "God is in control". It's a good reminder any time, right!
15 minutes later I was driving home, a little choked up, and called Tyler to tell him I was laid off.
It was not a shock, the housing market is so bad now that they are downsizing tremendously, closing down branches and merging 3 title operations into 1. If vice-presidents are worried about their job, why should a part-timer expect to keep her job.
I was not upset that I no longer have to spend half my time working at home and the other half thinking about the work that needs to get done.
I am excited I get to spend the rest of the summer with all my attention on my kids!
I was hurt, though, in the rudeness of how it was handled and the realization that in a huge corporation like Fidelity you think other employees are your friend but they are just other employees that are more concerned about themselves and their work to even give a fellow employee a friendly good-bye.
It is a little stressful that we have recently added some expenses and lost a lot of income but I'm not worried because God is in control! (And that's Tyler's thing to worry about ;-)
I have been discouraged and a little down in the dumps, or I should say lazy in bed. It's interesting how a good thing that should make me happy (I do feel relieved) would bring me down for this long.
On July 8th I was officially hired to teach at the preschool Dom & Bri attended, at Gladstone First Baptist Church. It has a new director and a new name, Sonshine Preschool. So this school year, while my kids are in school, I get to teach 3-5 year olds! (I did not plan to do this for the income because it is only half what I made at Fidelity-and I have to pay for Isaac's childcare- but for the great opportunity to get into teaching and I love working with kids!)
God is in control!
