my husband, my hero

A lot of things go unsaid on my blog because Tyler and I are both introverts. We don't talk or write in mushy, gushy, melodramatic, romantic, emotional words (which is not bad, I enjoy reading it). We just state the facts. I throw in a few feelings now and then since I am a woman, hear me roar, but I try to get right to the point.
Sometimes I think my point is misinterpreted, though. That's ok. I don't live for the approval of man, I live for the approval of God.
One thing we are, is completely open and honest. If you want to know anything or everything about us, we'd be glad to share it, especially our mistakes, because it might help someone else in their struggles.
Tyler is my favorite husband ;-) He stuck with me through the weakest time of my life. After 4 years of marriage, I started hanging out with my single friends, the summer of 2000. I was 22. My first taste of alcohol was on my 21st birthday on a date with my hero, but I drank more that summer than I should have. I went home to Tyler every night after dancing and hanging out with my girlfriends, but it was not something a married woman should do. Tyler fought hard to win me back. It ended when he crashed a party and took me home. I thank God my loving, forgiving husband is still the only man I have ever kissed my whole life! 2 months later I got pregnant with Dominick :-)
Tyler is also my favorite coach! He knows the game, he knows how to make a team win and he gets to know his boys well. Tyler has impacted many young boys' lives. The end of soccer season is always bitter-sweet for us. It is sweet because I get my husband back, after feeling like a single mom for 3 or 4 months and a coach's personal assistant, and Tyler gets to eat dinner with his family and get normal sleep! But it is bitter because we miss the families we spent so much time and emotional support with ;-) and we miss the boys and we miss the excitement of the games! We are so blessed to know so many families through coaching soccer.
My hero rose to the occassion again the day after we got 2nd place in the Championship game. The overload of emotions was too much for me to process so I just stayed in bed the whole day. Hard for a mom of 5 to do normally, but Tyler and the teens had fun fixing lunch and dinner together and my wonderful sister, Beth, got the younger kids to play practice and I got some much-needed sleep.
Here are a couple of articles that tell a little bit about what soccer means to us and how great Tyler is. My hero, my husband :-)
Another great article by our favorite editor, John Denny: PREP SOCCER: 'Overachieving' Gladstone boys fall 1-0 in state final.
or with a picture, the same article, in the Clackamas Review.

The article he wrote about Tyler after last year's season is still online.
